🎉HAPPY THE 56TH BIRTHDAY OF ASEAN!

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

On 8th August 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Throughout the years, with 10 Member States across the Southeast Asia, ASEAN has been striving to become an intergovernmental organisation which fosters cooperation and integration to address fundamental shared challenges and promote sustainable development of the region.

Under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,” the ASEAN Day is also an occasion to celebrate all the progress that have been made so far within the region in terms of development, resilience, and sustainability. Among all the sectors in the ASEAN, energy is considered the most critical and requires tremendous efforts in collaboration and harmonisation between the Member States to ensure energy connectivity, security, affordability, and sustainability, contributing to the overall prosperity of the region.

Against this backdrop, as a youth organisation in sustainable energy, the key missions of Y4E-SEA are to (1) increase representation and awareness of the youth in SEA on energy transition, (2) provide support for students, fresh graduates, and young professionals in the clean energy fields through capacity building activities, and (3) collaborate with other like-minded youth organisation in SEA and around the world to amplify the actions on the energy sector. We are hoping that with the upcoming activities and collaborations, we could represent the youth voice of SEA on critical energy issues, and make positive impacts to the society and communities to ensure energy security, accessibility, and just energy transition.

Once again, happy birthday to ASEAN! Let us celebrate the day of regional solidarity!
