Southeast Asia Climate Philanthropy Forum 2024

On the 4th September 2024, the Southeast Asia Climate Philanthropy Forum hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the government of Indonesia, one day before Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024.

The Southeast Asia Climate Philanthropy Forum is designed to accelerate people centered climate solutions, transitioning to a clean, prosperous, and healthy future in Southeast Asia. All stakeholders recognize the necessity for strong implementation to achieve the ambitious climate actions stated at COP28. As Southeast Asia faces significant economic development and environmental sustainability challenges, it is more important than ever to foster meaningful and robust collaboration among governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and climate philanthropy leaders from the region and globally. The Forum brings opportunities, challenges and lessons and aims to bring diverse voices from Southeast Asian countries.

During the high-level panel on people-centered climate solutions in Southeast Asia, Jitsai Santaputra, our Co-founder, delivered practical examples in which our organization practiced people-centered approaches to combating climate change, particularly in clean energy. Her fellow panelists similarly shared their experience in people-centered transitions in the areas of air quality improvements, and ocean conservation.

At Youth for Energy Southeast Asia (Y4E-SEA), we put the concept of people-centered energy transition into practice, such as our ASEAN Youth Energy Outlook. Based on quantitative and qualitative research of youths across the region; we capture their priorities, their needs, and what changes they want to see. From this research, we are able to provide policy recommendations and base our programs and projects on the topics that the ASEAN youth truly care about. Despite this, we also find it difficult to secure funding for projects, unfortunately a common problem among youth-led organizations in the region.

Fellow panelists:

Rachmat Kaimuddin, Government of Indonesia
